The Great Pandemonium

“For once they wake from their terrible fate, it is they who shall sunder thee.”

The Story

Drystan, an Inferi of the demon-hunting order Antenox, and his revenant partner, Arathron, are Tasked with finding the cause of disfigured corpses appearing at night in the streets of the city-state of Baedorn. Accompanied in the investigation by the Enkiri Akkali, whose dark past made her a brutally effective demon hunter and assassin, they soon cross paths with the Holy Inquisition, whose mandates command its Inquisitors to seek out and purge those using magic to profane the dead.

There they encounter Tiernan Brennan, Drystan’s childhood friend and now Inquisitor Captain, whose Regiment has been charged with much the same mission by the Cardinal of the Oribian. Ultimately, they join forces to seek out the suspected cause hiding in the labyrinthine tunnels known as the Shalewarrens.

Soon, the four realize that missing bodies and Inferno-charred corpses are just a symptom, and are driven to seek out the cause—something which drove two mages so utterly mad, they constructed an entire legion of homunculi to defend the Empire that exiled them for that most blasphemous of deeds…

History

The Great Pandemonium was inspired by the Kamelot song The Great Pandemonium (at least the series title and some plot points).

Also, quite a bit of Irish and overarching Gaelic/Norse mythology. And by quite a bit, I mean mostly everything. The Uisneach Hill, Barnstokkr, Yggdrasil and the wells at its roots, and especially the history and legends surrounding Donar’s Oak and the Irminsul. Donar’s Oak is basically the history of the Enkiri on Eral.

I’m pretty sure Book 1 as well as the first four character short stories are posted on Wattpad: The Ghost’s Crusade, Direction of the Dawning Sun, Nobilitas Obligat, Animus, and The Father’s Son. None are edited, The Father’s Son is unfinished, and TGC’s plot has been altered quite a bit. I also changed the title of Nobilitas Obligat to What Blood Obliges, because I like that one better and it suits the story. Again, all were posted under my previous pen name M. M. Moloney.
