Tools & Sources
GIMP is my tool of choice, along with Scribus and Atticus. Stock photos, if I use any, are ones I’ve found on Pixabay or Deposit Photos.
Fonts have been found all around the interwebs and are either free for commercial use, or have the option to buy a commercial license for a reasonable fee. I’ll probably list them and their authors on the copyright page for funsies anyway. Or am I the only one who wonders who designed the base fonts for particular covers?

Why not Photoshop?
Because of the thing I have about software-as-a-service models (namely the multiple “we can boot you off, delete all your stuff, and keep all your money whenever we feel like it” clauses that are in 99.9% of Terms of Service agreements). Would it be easier? Maybe. But that’s my problem. 🙂
